I am getting old, and my vision is getting worse, but there are times where it is blurry because of the medication I am taking. I am not supposed to get my vision checked until after I have been off the medication for a while to allow it to stablize, but that is not going to happen for a while. I have not been as cold today as other days. Last night while I was taking my warm bath it was odd, I know that the water was quite warm, but it did not feel warm. When I dipped my hands into the water I felt the warmth, but with my body itself I did not. I am getting a bit concerned with ascites right now as I have gained 10 lbs in approximately 10-11 days or so. It is hard to determine how much of the weight gain is real and how much is ascites build up. Mel seems to think that a lot more of it is real as she can visibly see it on me. I have also not had any more difficulties with eating or any of the other side effects. It gets in your head though, and every thing that is slightly off you start to question on whether it is real or just something that you imagine. I think that I am ok still as I can eat a bowl of ramen and drink the broth without too much difficulty, but every time I can not eat as much I always question whether I am full or is it because of some build up.
My sister has decided to come visit today which is awesome. We did not go down and see her this weekend, so she is going to come up to Sudbury to spend some time with us. Last night Mel and I were chatting on whether we wanted to go to Montreal for a quick trip. Olivier asked what for and we said for food obviously and his question was whether we were going to eat deep fried food. Mel and I laughed and said when do we ever go out searching for deep fried food. I said we would get a poutine, but we would probably eat at nice restaurants. He said he did not want to eat deep fried foodI think that the kids would like the environment and would appreciate that. I then thought that perhaps we should wait till the winter time and then we can go to Tremblant for a ski trip instead for a day and make a weekend of it. I am not sure how the wheelchair will work there, and I think that I would want to walk everywhere as the walkways are all snow covered. I can bring my walking stick and use that to walk around instead of the wheelchair. Bringing the manual one will be difficult to push around. The other option is I get a trackchair, those things seem awesome and go over a lot of different things and the base model is red. I do find it amusing though that the trackchairs have all sorts of attachments for guns. You can tell that they are evidently an american company as those are some of the big selling points on the trackchair brand. You can even attach a snow plow kit to the front of it. A fairly large downside however is that they are extremely heavy and you need to drive them onto a special carrier on the back of a vehicle. I do not think that I need one, but it would be nice to drive a tank.
Sometimes I enjoy being a bad influence on people. I enjoy food and i will happily share food with people to get them to like it and then share the price of it afterwards. When Mel and I first started dating, we would eat at her parents on occasion. One of my favorite meals is something simple, spaghetti and meatballs. Growing up my bestest friend grew up in an Italian and Ukranian household so pasta and such reminds me a lot of when I was younger. My parents use to make some spaghetti sauce and I am not sure if it was from a jar or not, but I found it sweet. They would add in lots of extra vegetables, but in Asian food there is sugar added to help balance things out. Growing up we always ate the parmesan cheese from the green Kraft container. It is a bit of a nostalgic topping and I do not mind it at times, but my preference is for parmesan reggiano. If I knew that we were eating pasta at her parents I would bring some over and have that instead of the Kraft. Over time they started to like it and enjoy it and then they realized the price of it. By that time they were use to it and could not go back. Now with Costco it is not as crazy to buy either. One of my favorite apples is a honeycrisp apple. They tend to be a bit more expensive than other apples. Fruit in Canada is a lot different than other countries and a lot of times it does not have the same flavour. When we are in Toronto we will go to the Asian markets and get imported fruit that tastes so much better. While working at Vale I would bring in apples to eat and would give one to my boss every time I did. At first he said it was too expensive and why pay more for that apple instead of the cheaper ones. Over time he started to enjoy the honey crisp and start to buy them. I love a good french butter and I will often buy it for us when I get a chance. I bought some for a friend who has been very good to me and his kids and his wife loved it. She said that it was some of the best butter she has had and she hid it from the rest of the family. It is a cultured butter from France, and the butter is made from cow’s milked in the spring with sea salt crystals in it. It is absolutely delicious. We were sitting around one day and she asked where can you get it from, so I sent her some links to the butter, and she was quite shocked by the sticker price but after thinking about it, thought it was worth it. I do enjoy giving this experience to others so that they can appreciate it. When I was going through radiation there was a patient that I saw every day and he had said he had never had Waygu steak before. I wanted to get some from him, but after that time he told me he never had it, or schedules did not match up and I did not know when he was in. Waygu is super rich though and it is not necessarily meant to be eaten in huge amounts. You can eat it in small amounts but it is like eating beef butter. It is delicious in moderation. I will generally buy Australian Waygu to eat as it is not as fatty, but on occasion I will buy the Japanese one because it is delicious. My parents get it. When I was living in Ottawa, my parents had come to visit and they saw a bunch of no name and cheaper food in my freezer and fridge. They made me throw a lot of it out and went shopping with me for higher end stuff and told me not to eat some of that lower quality food. I always fond it amusing that they could be so frugal in life but have no issues dropping over $100 on a bag of dried shitake mushrooms. I guess that is where I learned to appreciate good food and why now I like to expose people to it. I just prefer to get them to love items and then I drop the prices on them later.
