Last night at Olivier tells me that he needs to make a video of a cup on a hockey stick so that it an scoop up water from a lake or something. He asks me if there is a stick that he can use or if I know where a cup is. The thing is that the only sticks we have are Xavier’s so I said he could use one of Xavier’ds old sticks that are broken because we do not know what he needs to do. I asked him when did he find out about this assignment that was due in the morning and he said last week some time. At his party last week one of his friends was talking about it and was working on it. i told him that he could use one of the GoPros to film but I was not sure if we had any USB sticks around or he could use his tablet and transfer it to his computer. If he had to look for things he could ask Mel for help when she got home from the Sault. When I was a young student in high school, my friends and I had a saying. it is never too late when you procrastinate. Olivier has taken after us and we wonder how he is going to survive in school as he waits till the last minute or slacks off. Xavier will do his work right away and try and finish it during class so he does not need to take it home. Olivier takes after me and Xavier takes afer my sister. Mel is in between myself and what my sister does, but leans more towards slacking. When Mel got home I told him that he could then ask Mel for help and he replied that he finished it and submitted it already. I saw what he did and it was not bad, he said that he tried several things with elastic bands prior to taping. Neither of our kids like to ask us for help with their work. I am not sure exactly why. One of the kids that I was tutoring received their grades back and they got a 95%. That mark made me happy since it means that they understood it and slowed down and did not make any stupid mistakes, but my Asian upbringing shone through and I thought, how the hell did they lose 5%. The loss of 5% annoyed me and I asked what it was lost for. I know that if my kids ever lost marks because of some ridiclulousness from a teacher’s markings I might be pissed when I see the way some forms of math are taught. Use an abacus in your head instead of a calculator. It is so much faster.
Xavier was right and they kept the two older kids in their final year of high school. He has no interest in being 3rd string and said he would rather affilate with one of the other teams that want him where he has more friends on the team. He had a smirk and laughed when the idea of the safe move would be to keep your seniors and the young kid put him on the team and everyone would be happy. Most kids would be happy to be on the team but he does not care. I had some time to switch out his dented and mangled cage today. We had not realized that the cage had dug into the mask with some of the dents and it kind of wrecked parts of the wrap and it seems some of the carbon fiber beneath. I may order a new mask and wrap in January but this time we will put the Copper Park theme on the mask instead of what he has now. I also stitched up the finger holes in his blocker. Mel has moved most of our sewing supplies to my parents but I anticipated this and bought a leather sewing kit a while back and I am glad I did because it made this process so much easier to do. During his private session, there was a goalie at the other end of the ice and he is a really good goalie. I made a comment to the owner that he was the same age as Xavier and he could not believe it with the size difference between the two of them. Hockey is just a very expensive hobby for Xavier and he never was interested in pursuing it for anything more than fun. Though you would never be able to tell that he has fun as he seems so serious all of the time when he plays.
The effects of ascites is starting to build up. At lunch today I almost ate a full sandwich from Regency Bakery. I might have been able to finish off the last bite, but there is too much fear for me with one bite left so I normally stop. We did not know what to make for dinner so I decided to make some chopped sandwiches and I realized that the ascites was impacting me. I noticed it a bit this morning when I went for bloodwork as there is a tightness in my abdomen that gets worse the longer I am standing up. My regular lab tech was not there today so I had someone else, but luckily she was great. Mel wants to see if I can get my treatment moved to Wednesday instead of Thursday so it does not wreck my weekends. I just need to suffer through Thursday and Friday instead. It is not a bad idea, so I will bring that up to the booking clerk when I see her tomorrow. I had contacted the supportive care team to get drained and they said that I could come in right now. This was at around 12:00 and I was a bit concerned because we did not have any contingency plans to get Xavier to his private sessions if that happened. i said that I could do either Friday or next week but she wanted to check with the oncology team about doing it right after treatment, they had said it was fine so I am getting drained on Friday morning. Super exciting, it also means that I will not be able to do much on Friday as I do not always feel great. This is going to mess up my data for treatment as Saturday might be extra bad and we will not know exactly why. i think that we have people coming over for dinner on Saturday and I am not sure wha I will be responsible for. Most likely potatoes I think, so we will make a ridiculous amount of that and a ton of gravy. It is going to be delicious.
