We started hockey again and had a scrimmage against another team last night. Xavier is playing really well and shut out the other team during the scrimmage. In the past this team has beaten us by a considerable amount. When he plays well it seems to energize the team and they start to play better. His team crashed into him three times and knocked him out of the net but he managed to recover and make the saves. When he left the game the score was 0-0 and he points out that he shut them out, but the team ended up losing 4-0, which was not a bad result overall. The biggest issue is when the first goal goes in against our other goalie the team gets dejected and it impacts their play. The parents on the other team were commenting that Xavier was really good, which is always nice to hear. We are leaving to go to the tournament today and this morning Olivier was all congested and Mel was a bit worried. He is congested a lot though so it is not that big of a surprise. We decided to keep both of them home. The kids would be devastated if Xavier could not play. I had told the team manager about our fun this morning and they had informed me that we needed to isolate Xavier right away and get him to another household. Having him out of the tournament was not an option. The teams that we are playing are some of the best in all of Ontario, Three of the teams are undefeated and have beat other teams by 20+ goals. I do not anticipate Xavier letting in that many goals regardless of how bad his team is. I do expect 50+ shots on him though.
Xavier used to love school and would not miss it for any reason. We have had tournaments in Sudbury where he would go back to school in between games because he did not want to miss the opportunity to learn. Now he does not like school because he has not learned anything new with his current teacher. He has had her for the last two years now and i do not think he is challenged during school. In previous years the teacher would give him the opportunity to learn other things. On the rare occasion where he learns something new then he gets excited about it. I started teaching both kids algebra now. It may seem young, but my father taught it to me when I was Olivier’s age, so we will see if he gets it. We started talking about it and I think he will be excited to start to learn something new. Once we get through some algebra than we will continue with physics. While we were in the car we were explaining some physics to the kids and I think that they will enjoy learning it. The only downside to it though is that when they eventually get around to it in school he is going to be bored again. Normally Olivier is the creative one, but Xavier has been writing his own book now for the last couple of months. During the day he will take a couple of hours during the day and write his book that he is writing. I have not read it at all so do not know what it is about or even what language he is writing it in. When he shares it though I will be quite excited to see what he has written. He has made videos for myself for Christmas and Mel for her birthday. Olivier was excited to go to school today because they were going to start learning how to program in Scratch. I think I am going to set him up with it at home and he can start. We told himWork has been crazy the last couple of weeks and I have worked long hours. I am looking forward to going to the hockey tournament and watching the team play this weekend.
My thought process is starting to get back to normal but I have also realized that there are things that I can not do as quick yet. When doing math in my head the numbers just appeared and I knew what the answers were. Now I actually need to think about the numbers when doing calculations. I did not realize how simple it was until I had to think about things to get the numbers right. Within a second or two I would know the answer, but now it takes a bit of extra time to formulate it and then get the answer. There are little cognitive things that I am starting to notice at the moment. My reading speed is slightly down as well. I did not notice at first and thought it was just fatigue, but I can not read as fast as I could last year. Prior to all of this I could read a book in a couple of hours and retain the information. Now it takes me double the time to read the book and absorb it all. i am not sure if this was due to the cancer treatments and fatigue or if it was due to my brain being squashed. My typing speed was decreased but it is starting to come back now.
i drove all the way down and I am tired now. We have the tournament starting tomorrow and it said be fun.
