A couple of nights ago I decided to listen to my playlist that I created last year when I was in the hospital. It is remarkable how memories of being in the hospital flood back. I played the same playlist when I was in the hospital after my brain surgery as well. When I play the music though, I do not remember the pain of the situation or any of those things, I remember Mel sitting in the chair next to me when I woke up from a nap. I remember chats with my room mate at the time. Memories of the nurses that I had, and nothing about the catheter or the struggles and pain with the tube lodged down my throat. Mel thinks that playlist is depressing, but I do not find it depressing. I just wanted to listen to more mellow things than I normally listen to. I had planned on going to bed early that night, but I ended up staying up much later than I had anticipated. I have quite a few songs that remind me of different stages in my life and some music that reminds me of events. After graduating from high school we went to Vancouver for my cousin’s wedding and my little cousin was getting into reading and wanted to read the Harry Potter books and I remember buying a bunch of those books for him. I read them at the same time while listening to At the Drive In – Relationship of Command. Whenever I hear that album it makes me think of Harry Potter.
Our kids have an eclectic taste in music. Driving out to a game in Capreol, Xavier has his own playlist he likes to listen to and he has his own mix but a lot of songs I like as well. The team has a playlist with songs they were allowed to add and the songs that Xavier added are nothing like the ones the rest of his team has. He added a bunch of more electronica music on his playlist to help pump him up. He has been playing really well in his last couple of games. We got absolutely destroyed at the tournament but he played well. The other goalie was pulled one game after 8 goals in a period and he then let in 3 more. His next start they lost and most of the goals were from point shots through screens. I think the game ended 7-0. His last game they kept it quite close and ended up losing 5-1. They were up 1-0 in the second at one point. There were some lucky bounces and bad rebound control in that game. The other team was undefeated and ended up winning the tournament 8-3. Last night the game ended 3-1 with some weird goals. It was super close and he made a lot of saves. He is almost at the point that he can carry the team. Right now the strategy is basically keep the game close enough and on the few opportunities they need to score and hope Xavier makes the big saves to close out the win.
With my spacebar on my laptop not really functioning well i have noticed that I tend to not write as much. I need to either buy a new laptop, fix the keyboard or plug a keyboard in. It is quickly approaching the day of my first treatment. It seems like it was so long ago.
