August 12th – Rule the world

Posted on 2026-08-12 By Q No Comments on August 12th – Rule the world

Last night I did not feel well so I had taken a bath and felt a bit better afterwards. Mel made me take my temperature and it was 37.9. For the next two hours I would take my temperature and it started at 37.9 and slowly decreased tp 37.0 by 1am where she work me up to take my temperature. Mel wanted me to go into the ER, but I refused to unless it was 38.1 or above. Mel mentioned that last time when my temperature was increased by half a degree they put me on antibiotics. When I went in this morning for my preassessment and talked to the nurse, she told me that since i was coming in the morning it was better than sitting in the ER for hours. I will get faster treatment from the cancer center and it will be the same. I think that the cancer center will treat me a bit better as this is their area of expertise. She told me that tonight that if my temperature increased to 38.1 then to call the cancer center and check in with them. Mel wanted me to get my rash checked out and it may potentially be a side effect of the drugs that I am taking. The results from my blood work this morning indicated that I had low neutrophil levels as my immune system is a bit compromised. My treatment this week is cancelled until next week, He is going to change up my dosage as well as change from IV Benadryl to oral so that it hopefully does not impact me as much. This will change up my schedule for the next couple of weeks now. I am going to try and avoid crowds and people for the next week or so because of my compromised immune system. Mel wanted me to take a trip to a germ infected location, but I declined and told her I do not think that I want to go, though i may change my mind as I tend to always wear my gloves and I can always wear a mask. If I am there as well Mel would get preferential parking and we could get better access to some rides if I choose to go on, but I do not think that I want to go on any rides. I told Mel that either her or myself need to stay in a bubble when she gets back.

Xavier has had a lot of hockey this week and he has had his skates sharpened already a couple of times. I had his skates sharpened between sessions and took the other set to get sharpened. I drove home and left his extra blades by the front door and repeatedly told him to put them in his bag when we were coming home. He kept on saying why, I do not need them yet. This happened for 3 days and I kept on telling him to put them in when his bag was right beside it. He refused and he wanted to wait. Today he needed to swap them and he forgot them, but I had grabbed them for him. I told him that he should have put them in when he had the chance. Of all things that Mel does awesome what bothers me the most is when she puts off things for later when they could be done now with no extra effort. Xavier inherited that part from her, but not all of the time it seems. Just on occasion and it bothers me so much. Mel could list a lot of things that I do that bother her. I do not understand why having socks on the floor beside the bed is an issue. Having a bunch of socks scattered on the floor helps with insulation and if I spill a drink it is qucik wiping with dirty socks. I think it is a win win and not a “mess” like she thinks the boys do. Every thing that she thinks is out of place is intentionally left there. Now one of the reasons might be carelessness, forgetfullness or to anger her, but they all legit. She is obsessed with nose hairs and if you blow your nose and a nose hair comes out she demands you pull over and deal with it right away. It is a bit awkward when you are on the 400 series and you pull over on the side of the highway and pull out scissors to cut a nose hair that is sticking out 1mm from your nose. We have decided i think on what we want to do with the washroom and should be ordering the steam shower soon enough. Apparently they will come to start work in a couple of weeks. I am looking forward to sitting in the warmth of the steam shower.

In high school I was a troublemaker in school and would often get detentions for not paying attention or talking in class. The school was out in Garson when I was in grade 9 and my science teacher would give me detention after school until the buses left and then she would let me go. I would need to wait till 4pm to take the late bus into New Sudbury and then walk home from there. I do not remember exactly where the bus dropped me off, but I remember being foolish enough to do this repeatedly. Funnily enough I actually liked this teacher and she got along well with her, she would just call me out in class for disrupting it all of the time. In my defense my friends would talk to me as well, but I was foolish enough to turn my body or ignore her repeated warnings. We had the class in a lab setting so I understand why you should pay attention and be safe in there. At this time the high school was just boys and the atmosphere was quite different from when there were girls there later on. Young boys act differently when there are no girls around. I remember how some of the guys would act in grade 7 & 8, and the way people acted in high school was quite different. I had always known what high school I was going to go attend and Xavier knew where he was going to go. Olivier on the other hand does not know. I think he would do best at Lockerby with their STEP program, but they do not have French immersion so that school is off the table. Xavier thinks he should go to either Lockerby or Loellen for their science program. The eldest is all about making money and his trajectory is geared towards that. I had told him to help give him an edge he should try and get an athletic scholarship to go along with his chances for an academic one. He said that he is going to attend the U18AA tryouts and gauge how the team is and then if he makes it decide what he wants to do. It is all for the opportunity for scholarships. We were talking about ivy league schools and he said you need to be either super rich or super smart to get in. We are not super rich, but he thinks that if he tries harder it would help out. If he can play hockey he may be able to get in via an athletic scholarship and with the higher academic standards it reduces the field that he has to compete against. He asked if U of T has a hockey team and I said it did, so he could go there and pkay hockey while doing a dual major in finance and business. I always find it amusing the difference between our two kids. Olivier is hyperfocused on what he needs to do now, whether it is baking or coding, He ended up memorizing a recipe he was trying out today because he did not want to mess it up. When he is coding he will spend as much effort in regards to that. Olivier focuses on the now and what he can accomplish, while Xavier looks into the future at the bigger picture. One of my favorite lines from Olivier that always bring a smile to my face is when he replies, it’s fine. it’s fine with little concern regardless of the size of the potential impact. He normally says it in a joking matter for a serious situation so he recognizes the absurdity of it. Both of them can come up with ridiculous rationale for their actions and I love them for it. This is a mix of both Mel and myself. Mel at times can look at the bigger picture, but at times she wants instant gratification, but for some things she understands the long game. I am interested to see what happens within the next couple of years to see what Olivier decides to do.
