July 30th – Summertime

Posted on 2026-07-302026-07-30 By Q No Comments on July 30th – Summertime

Today I realized that eating deep fried food for lunch and dinner does not work very well for me. I had poutine and a corn dog for dinner and then some fried chicken and lasagna for dinner. I ended up throwing up mucous and the fried chicken. Every thing else seems to be ok and we will see what tomorrow brings. I tried to get my appointment for next week moved but I was unable to, probably because it is a short week and there is not much time. The person said that there were no options to move it, but generally in the past I have been able to get things moved. The person said that I can just skip it, but I think that is a bad idea and would rather not skip it. I will figure something out as Xavier has hockey game in North Bay that day and I am not sure if I will be able to attend or not. I think it is ok if I can not, but I would like it if I could. I have not eaten as much today as I normally do as we went to our MIL for dinner. Mel had thought that I was supposed to take pills prior to my appointment, but chatting with the nurse she said no. Mel does not believe her so she wants to ask a different nurse tomorrow. I am pretty sure she will say the same thing. Mel is adamant that the doctor said that I would be getting pills for 3 days prior. I do not remember. I am not sure how long tomorrow’s treatment will be so it should. R interesting. I will bring some food and see if I have time to eat it all or not.

I am tired and trying to think of things from my childhood and I am coming up blank at the moment. Olivier and Xavier have had a much better relationship today. Xavier helped Olivier setup his old bike and get it ready and the two of them went on a short bike ride. It seems that they have been getting along better the last couple of days. Olivier has been instigating some things with his brother and they are just play fighting a bit. Olivier will call his brother a twerp, short stack, pipsqueak or some harmless variation. Xavier will then jump on him and put him in some sort of choke hold or beat him up. When he does the choke hold he is careful not to actually hurt him, but just immobilizes him so that he can not move at all. Sometimes it is some sort of submission and Olivier is left flailing and laughing. Growing up in Sudbury, in elementary school there was not a ton of racism or name calling towards me. As I got older it increased.  Gent when I was by myself because my friends would have beaten up anyone who had called me names. They would call my slurs like “chink”, ching chong or just mimic Chinese. When things like this happened I just walked away from the situation. I did not care enough to engage with the people and they would keep on saying stuff while I walked away. Later on I had seen some friends of friends say things like this in their chats and photos and I am not sure if they realized that they were racial slurs or not. Growing up in a small community, sometimes you are oblivious. When it was said to me it was done with malicious intent and I am not sure what they expected would happen. I know that my friends and I would step in if we saw someone getting bullied. I asked Xavier what he would do if he saw someone getting bullied and he said obviously that he would step in and try and stop it. Xavier is pretty big and strong so he has the confidence that he will not get hurt. He also does kickboxing and jujitsu so I think he has confidence to defend himself. I am glad that he answered the way that he did, because doing nothing is just as bad as participating. If you let it happen you are part of the problem.  Of course it is understandable as well that you may not want to get involved if there is a group and you are uncomfortable, but silence does not necessarily let you off. While in high school I would spend a lot of time in the valley as for some reason I had met a lot of girls out there. This has happened to me a few times in my life where the parents would not let their daughters date me because I was Asian. It always amused me when that happened because I did not understand the logic. I have said that Asians are racist as well and alot of Asian parents do not want their kids dating outside of their race to keep it “pure”. This applies to other Asian races as well as non-Asians. My parents are interestingly quite liberal in this sense and they never cared. Though out of all girls I ever brought home, Mel is the only one that they truly liked. They tolerated the others, but I know that they did not really like them. They would tell me that driving out to hang out with them was a waste of gas. I am glad that they openly brought Mel into our family so easily. I remember times when people would cross the street so that they did not walk on the same side as me and then cross back. Good thing that they did otherwise they may have contracted cooties from me. That being said most of the time I was surrounded by love and warmly embraced by a lot of friends and their families. A lot of the families that I am close to, I still talk to the parents or to their extended families. Those are ties that are not easily broken and they loved me regardless of my race or skin colour.

I have taken a lot of photos with Xavier and rarely with Olivier. He hates it when I give him a kiss so I was taking photos and managed to give him kisses, much to his dismay. They will know show up on the Google home and hopefully they will pop up when his friends are over. It will be awesome. He says that the growth on my face is too prickly so he does not like it. I do not think that the kids have kissed me since they were little, but every opportunity that I can I like to squeeze their faces and give them a kid like when they were little. They grow up so fast and years fly by so quickly that we should try and appreciate every moment that we have.
