The sleeping pill from last night worked wonders and I slept all the way through the night till 7am where I then got up, went to the washroom and then went back to bed and slept till 10am. The morning was spent lounging around and I took a couple more naps today. The naps today were not fatigue naps but feeling lazy naps. My body is still aching but it is not the same and getting better. I do see a negative impact on my eating though as I am struggling to eat the same amounts that I was before. It seems though it is more because of taste and texture than being super full. I can not stand to eat more because of the sensation so I stop for now. I have found some things that are enjoyable and will continue eating that. I still need to manage energy levels and today was a good day for recovery. The kids had wanted jerk chicken so I started cooking that this afternoon and they all loved it. Mel asked me how I felt cooking and I said 8 enjoyed it, but I need to do it in stages to monitor my energy. It really sucks that I can not taste things today. I told Mel that I thought it was salty and she said it was not. Normally it is the other way for me.We need to transition now from summer, to fall and winter. This will involve securing things and readjusting the shed. In the past Mel and I did this together, but she has done this the last couple of years. Last year she had not setup the shed for easy access to the snowblower and it is a bit difficult to maneuver. This year we might just get a temporary shed by the side the house to cover and house it there. It will make it easier to access when required. It has a lot of controls on it to help with movements, but when it did not move as quickly as I wanted I was strong enough to brute strength it. Mel will not be able to do that. She had the boys help out at things and it looks good, but it is different from having a partner. It reminds me of a when I was younger and a student and I regret falling out of touch with this person. I was attending a conference in Atlanta with a connecting flight somewhere. I can not remember where exactly, but a lot of flights got cancelled and it was the middle of the night. This Asian guy and myself were standing around trying to figure out what to do. Hotels were difficult to book, but he called his wife who was a travel agent and she managed to find some cheap rooms. They were the last ones. When we got there my room had not been cleaned and was a mess. I was tired and did not want to make a big deal of it being young. There was a restaurant next door and he paid for my dinner and had paid for the taxi ride there. He wanted to make sure that I was ok, and the next morning we traveled back to airport. It reminded me of what having a capable partner looks like. He called her and she helped out him and myself. In times of stress, he had someone that could give through for him. It took a while to find the dingy hotel because so many flights were closed down and a lot of people slept in the airport. He gave me his business card and when we arrived in Toronto he wanted to make sure that I was ok and had a ride, but I rushed off and I do not think I ever contacted him. I regret not keeping in touch and telling him how much that meant to a poor student. Even though we are in the same house, sometimes I can not yell for Mel, but she is always a text or a phone call away. I could ask her to hand me water beside the bed and she would not make it seem like a nuisance or me hindering her. Yesterday morning she fed me when I asked because I did not want to touch the cold spoon or ramekin. Love does not need to be shown in grand gestures, but the little invisible actions. I think a true testament to this are the actions to take when it may inconvenience you. I was lying in bed today and it reminded me of that one phone call. I have surrounded myself with people who are not selfish and put others first. I realize not everyone is like that though and I screen fit that in interviews when building teams. If we can not find a suitable solution for the snowblower soon, I will sell this one and get a smaller electric battery powered one that Mel can use. If it is easy enough, maybe I can just it as well. I have always enjoyed shoveling so my goal this winter is to be able to help out.
