The titles lately have been the first song that pops up on my shuffled My Supermix Playlists. So you never know what you are going to get. Mel and I went to see The Odyssey tonight and I said that we have not gone to a movie with just the two of us for a long time. She disagreed and said that we have as we have dropped off the kids at my parents to see movies, but in all of those instances we went to see the movie with someone else. I can not remember the last time we went to see a movie just the two of us. I can not look at credit card history to find it, but I said it has been at least 15 years and Mel disagrees with me. Regardless it does not happen very often. We went to A&W and grabbed some chicken buddy burgers and onion rings first. We ate those in the van and snuck the drink into the movie. When we got in we also ordered popcorn and drinks and then we sat down for the 3hr movie. Mel said that she would prefer to watch such a lengthy movie at home. She wanted to get up and pace around but she did not. On the way home I decided that I wanted to maintain my unhealthy diet and purchased a double cheeseburger from McDonalds. I ate about 3/4 of it as I could not finish it from the constant snacking of popcorn and drinks throughout the movie. So far my energy levels have been great with little fatigue for the most part. There are occasions where I am tired, but that may be caused by my actions in the day.
Tomorrow I need to go in for my pre-assessment and bloodwork at 8am. I dislike having to go in for my preassessement and much prefer the phone calls. They ask a standard battery of questions and to make it faster I tell them it is a no across the board except for neuropathy. On the bright side though I need to do my bloodwork as well so I needed to go in regardless. The difference though is with bloodwork I could determine when I go in and with this I can not. When I weighed myself last night I was 141lbs. It is the first time that I broke the 140 mark in a very long time and this time it is not from ascites buildup as it seems that we have that under control. Mel had thought that I needed to take drugs prior to my treatment, but we did not receive anything telling us that we had to. My steroid dosage for day of treatment has effectively tripled as I need to take it 3 times a day, and then I go cold turkey after. Mel thought that it seemed a bit suspicious and she may be right. I will talk to a nurse on Friday and see what she says. Mel will come with me this week to treatment but she will probably not come with me every week anymore as it would then require her to take 3 Friday’s off a month for work and it seems a bit suspicious to do that. I also need to get my treatment moved from Friday as that day sucks for when we need to travel for hockey. Xavier had a private 1:1 session and his shooter had his private 1:1 right afterward with the U18AAA coach. We got talking afterward and when Xavier told him that he was playing houseleague he did not believe him. He was surprised that he was not on one of the rep teams as he moves quite well and is difficult to score on.
In my childhood I became a goalie because my best friend was a prolific forward. He obviously needed someone to shoot on and they had some goalie equipment so I would dress and he would shoot on me. It was the same for baseball, as he was a pitcher and he had some gear and then I would become the catcher. We would spend all of our time playing baseball and hockey in the summer and hockey throughout the whole year. He lived on a cul-de-sac that had 3 houses at the end of it so we had a perfect area to play hockey. We would gather quite a few kids and play games up there all of the time. It did not matter the weather. I remember playing in the pouring rain at times. Down the street from me there was also a minority family with two boys older than me that use to play with us. The age range of kids was around 5 years and it was always fantastic playing there. Teams were decided by piling all of the sticks together and then throwing sticks to each side to determine teams. Growing up there were times where a bunch of our friends would get together on other streets and play street hockey. It was a common past time for us to gather together and play hockey. I am not sure how we would get everyone together but we always had a lot of kids come together to play. I remember one year when I was in elementary school that I asked my parents for a hockey stick. They bought me a plastic stick and not a wooden one. When I think back I do not think I was happy as my stick was not like the other kids. My stick was white and I can not remember what colour the blade was but for some reason I thought it was yellow. It was probably the right choice as it was more durable and most likely cheaper. My parents had no clue and to them this was a toy and they would buy the cheapest for me. The thing is, with a plastic blade it lasts longer and better when you play on pavement. You can also curve the stick however you want, so there are some benefits from it. No one cared what kind of a stick I had amongst my friends but I do recall that it was different. Within our neighbourhood as kids no one really saw race or made a big deal of it. I had actually forgot about that family as the kids were older than me and I was reminded of it. In elementary school and those early years I was never exposed to much racism. It was as I got older where I started seeing it more. Kids may notice differences, but they do not attach meaning to them unless they learn that meaning from the people and world around them. Mel never saw the racism as she is a white french Canadian girl from Chelmsford. Her family is not racist so that is not something that she ever had to deal with. I think some of the worst racism is within the Asian race itself with a lot of ethnicities looking down on others. I was lucky that as a child I did not need to deal with any of that until I got into high school and University. It was worse there, but I managed to avoid a lot of those situations or refrain from having to deal with those people. The world is different now and mixed race kids are more prevalant and is far more acceptable. The benefit of mixed race kids are they tend to blend positive attributes from both side and it tends to result in attractive kids. Hopefully the kids will not be exposed to the racism that I faced.
