September 12th – Season 2 Episode 4: Look what you can do

I woke up this morning quite early as I had to go to the washroom and stayed up for a bit before I decided to go back to bed. There was F1 qualifiying this morning so I wanted to watch it but knew that I wanted to eat. I had a craving for a breakfast sandwich and decided to make some for the whole family, except everyone was still sleeping and it was just me up. I prepped everything that I needed and then started cooking everything methodically and made sure that I made each sandwich according to everyone’s tastes. Xavier likes extra meat, and Olivier likes no bacon. Everyone likes a spicy mayo and cheese and the kids like a soft scrambled egg on top of the sandwich. I made all of the sandwiches and wrapped them all up and put them in the oven on the warming setting. I decided to make Mel a coffee in one of our Yeti’s to keep it warm. Her preference though is to drink from a real cup but as I did not know what time she was going to be up at I figured I would play it safe. It took me probably 30 minutes or so to prep and prepare the breakfast and once I was done I was tired and ate my sandwich. Olivier got up and I told him I made sandwiches and he went and got his and added raw onions. I took my coffee to the bedroom and told Mel that I made breakfast where she berated me about drinking coffee from a warmed ceramic mug instead of a metal Yeti. She threw the coffee at me and drenched the bed in hot coffee as well as scalding me. That is what would happen if Mel was crazy, but she is not and she said that she appreciated the coffee but prefers to use a real mug. So obviously the only solution is to buy something that will keeop the ceramic mug warm all of the time. Clearly we will be spending more money in order to achieve this.

Qualifying was at 10am and I did not want to do anything during that time and we had to drive out to Capreol for Xavier’s party. Mel wanted to leave at 2pm, so obviously we left at 2:30. All morning I was eating fine, but I knew that my taste buds were shot and I was a bit concerned with textures. I took a Jamacian beef patty out of the fridge as a precursor meal before leaving and it did not go well. The texture of the pastry was offputting so I gave it to Xavier who did not really want it and gave it back. I tried another bite and spit it out as it did not sit very well. On our drive out to Capreol, Xavier made the comment that with an event like this it kind of wrecks the day as he could not do anything before or after as it is in the middle of the day. He also said the 45 minute drive did not seem so bad but it seemed longer than he remembered. It was nice seeing all of the parents and the new team and they gave us some information about the season. There are 7 teams in the U16 loop and we may play some U18. Xavier is fine with that as we played against U18 this summer and did quite well against them. I think that this team will be quite strong compared to the other teams in the league. It will be interesting to see how things go. The one issue though is the ice times are on the same nights as Xavier’s kickboxing and BJJ so he may need to make some choices. For the BBQ it was the usual burgers and hot dogs, but the last time I had one of the jumbo dogs from Costco it did not sit well. The texture of the hot dog bothered me for some reason, though a smaller hot dog like a Red Hot or one in a natural casing seems to be fine. I managed to eat 1/3 of a burger and gave the rest to Mel and had a couple bites of a greek salad. I was smarter this time and limited eating and monitored my energy levels as by this time Mel had finished all of the alcohol that she brought. It is hard to say how much she drank as she was wearig an oversized camping backpack and sippingh alcohol through a connected straw. I suspect last weekend’s box of wine and 17 coolers shamed her so she wanted to hide it more this time. Around 4:45 I noticed that my energy levels were starting to decline and I could feel the fatigue seeping into my body and informed Mel that I wanted to leave around 6pm. We left and picked up some sushi from Sapporo on the way home as I thought that I could handle it. Spoiler alert. I could not. I managed to eat two pieces and I could not taste anything, the texture was fine, but the lack of flavour made it difficult to eat and I felt full after 2 small pieces. I was not feeling the greatest since the drive and decided to go into the bedroom with my heater and blanket and watch Ohio State vs Texas where I am now starting to feel better with the heat.

If I manage energy levels properly then I can manage to go out and do things. On these days I also need to switch to a softer diet and I think that I will make sure that next time I have either congee or tofu. Right now we have tofu, yogurt, pudding and miso soup so I have quite a bit of options. I think that I am learning more of this pattern and Mel is always wiling to help out with anything that I need. She is in the room with me reading and trying to blind me with her reading lamp. I am not sure if she just wants to be near me or does not trust that I am actually ok, but I do enjoy her company. It reminds me of when we first started dating and would do this, where each of us would do our own thing in silence. My hands are freezing, but the neuropathy is under control. I was not feeling well, but with the rest and heat I am starting to feel much better. I just need to figure out a way to measure my energy and fatigue like a battery and things will be awesome. Tomorrow I will wake up and wartch the F1 race where my team is starting on pole and then we will need to go grocery shopping. What I wanted to make tomorrow we might need to change as eating chicken scares me right now. Things turned out well this weekend and hopefully next weekend does as well.
