When we first bought our house, our neighbours all thought that we had installed a heated driveway. I had a standard that I maintained. Before I went to work I would shovel. That would mean that on some really heavy snow fall days I would set an alarm to get up at 5am or even 4:30am to go out and shovel the driveway. Our driveway is sloped and one day when we first moved in the truck had slid onto the road. It does not necessarily matter if it is in 4×4 or if the parking brake is on, it slides because it is on an ice like surface, so even with the wheels turned it would just slide straight down onto the road and stop once the tires engaged with the snow there. Since that day I would meticulously shovel. If it shoveled all day I would go out and shovel as soon as I could not see the interlock or 2 hour of snow fall. This meant that sometimes I would go out every hour or so. The edges would be completely straight and I would take time to make sure that it looked nice. Last year I had to stop shoveling and Melanie and Xavier took over. They did not get up early to go shovel, but they did a great job with the snow removal. Mel this year even parked the truck far enough onto the side, basically completely on the yard so the van can come straight out of the garage.
When you drive over the snow prior to it being shoveled it would leave compacted tire marks on the driveway. What I would always do is go out and scrape it all off completely. It is sometimes difficult to get the van into the garage if you have the hard packed snow like that. A couple of days ago I was able to go out and scrape all of those marks off and it was not too bad. I realized that I could do that and now I go out and help shovel a bit. Xavier will always go out and help out and as soon as he comes home from school if there is snow on the driveway he will shovel it. We use to park on the side of the road if it snowed after coming home from groceries or being out and shovel it right away before driving the van into the house. Mel did this as well, she would just not scrape it all down. I do not blame her as it was not easy work to do.
One of my other tasks was cleaning the washroom and we have a high ceiling in the shower. I am not exactly sure how she managed to clean some of the high parts of the shower. Cleaning this was difficult. Mainly because I had to do it with my slippers on and I was trying not to get too wet. If I go barefoot then the floor is a bit too cold for me. I can not do it for too long but I managed to do it this week. Tomorrow I have my next appointment with my doctor. It was not a super pleasant experience last time. I had gone in thinking that everything was going great and initially things were well until he mentioned that I should be enjoying life because it is bound to come back. At this point though I do not care. Even if he thinks that the odds are against me, I am more prepared for it this time.
