I finally got around to getting my hair cut. It was a bit tricky since I had half of my head shaved on one side. She was quite reluctant to cut it that short on both sides, but I told her that it was fine. It looks much better now but super short. My hair use to be quite coarse with quick growth and now it is very fine and grows very slowly. Every Christmas she collects money for charity so I always donate to it. In the past at Christmas when I worked at the hospital I would buy a large stack of the $1 dollar lottery tickets and give them randomly to workers that I encountered throughout the hospital. It was amusing when people would win money. A lot of people offered to give me some of the money they won, but I never accepted any. It seems an odd thing to do, to receive a part of a gift that you have given to someone else.
One Christmas event that I miss was when we were volunteered to go drop off food/gifts with the church when I was younger. It was something that my best friend and I got volunteered into doing. They had a family of 3 boys, so they would get phone calls for help. I would get grouped in and off we would go. I would get paired up with the primary sponsor who was responsible for bringing my family to Canada. I was quite surprised at some of the houses and places we would visit. Some of the visits were in lower income areas of towns, but some were in neighbourhoods that I would not have suspected. I would never have thought that they would have needed help. At some point everyone needs help. It is very difficult to make it through life without the assistance of anyone. Now that I am at a stage in life where I can give back, I try to do that. I would like our kids to learn to start doing volunteer work and to appreciate things a bit more. Our kids are quite spoiled and they know that they are spoiled. In a given week I think that we get some sort of assistance from others more than 50% of the time right now.
I have started gaining weight slowly, with a small increase every day or so. It is encouraging as my stomach is getting bigger I think I will be able to gain weight and then start working on some muscle mass. I do not have any more dizzy spells or light headedness. I wear my compression socks on occasion, but I am not really sure how much of a difference they make right now. Interestingly enough, hockey helps as I eat an extra dinner after hockey at night. Xavier is hungry after playing so we end up with another full meal around 7 or 8pm. As of now, I am getting approximately 2000+ steps, when compared to before I have increased by about 500 steps. I would like to slowly increase 500 steps a week and hopefully start to exercise a bit more. I can not do anything strenuous right now, but walking is fairly simple. With Christmas coming up, my sister will be around to visit and she will help out with the kids. It would be nice to start being more active with the kids. The other day Xavier made a comment when it was just him and me in the vehicle driving to hockey. He thinks I am all better now and I seem more back to normal. I just need to gain strength and everything will be ok now. Hopefully he is right and that is all I need to get back to normal.
