Xavier is starting hockey again and he will need some new pads this year. Last year in December he needed new pads so he got some. He used them for 2 months and then hockey ended. This time he is going to get some custom pads so he should have them in 8 weeks or so. His design choices are rather colorful, but he likes it and everyone I have shown it to like it as well. Mel still does not want me to drive after the incident on Monday so I she drives us and we all go together. Olivier just spends his time running in the arena. Oliver was watching Xavier design his pads and he was all excited to go watch Xavier play because he wanted to see the new pads. I am not sure if I should wait and see if Xavier makes the team or just let him choose these pads because if he plays for another team his pads and gloves are going to stand out so much. They contain red, black, white, orange, gold and yellow.
1.) I have said this repeatedly, but I really appreciate everything that Mel does. She has taken over 99% of the chores around the house for the last 6 months, the kids help out a bit and I try and help out when I can, but she has done everything without complaint. Besides that she helps prepare snack, meals and drinks for me, which is basically every hour. I can do some of it, but then I need to rest after each time I do it. When she is not around I am much more tired doing things compared to when she helps me out. It has been quite the effort. The kids rely on her for school work and the amount of effort that is required to run the house is astounding. It is not just running the household, but taking care of the kids and myself.
2.) Over the next few months we will need some help with Xavier and his hockey as he is on the ice quite a bit. Right now Olivier is undecided on whether he wants to play hockey or not. All of our family has offered to help out and take him to hockey as well as other hockey parents from his team. I appreciate all of the support from people. Xavier plays an important position as he is a goalie and last year they only had 1 goalie per team in the rep. league. The teams are planning on carrying 2 goalies this year. Every year he has had the opportunity to wear the number he wants. Number 14. A very typical goalie number.
I am gaining weight now and slowly going up. Talking to my dietician this week she was happy and thought some of my strategies were good. I decided I did not want the IV in me anymore as I find it restrictive. I just need to make sure that I drink enough water and maintain my hydration. Right now it seems that I can eat and drink more. For snacks, I am eating pork rinds because 8 pieces is 90 calories and it is relatively light and does not make me feel heavy. I have returned to eating 6 times a day now and it is getting easier. My first meal in the morning is a bit difficult still but it is getting easier day by day.
When I was reading your blog and listening to how much gratitude and admiration you have for Mel it made me recall one of my most favourite quotes:
Family is not an important thing. It’s everything.
—Michael J. Fox
Family will always have your back when you need them. It’s the greatest blessing God gave us.
I agree. I also consider quite a few of my friends family. The amount of people that have helped out or offered to help out has been amazing…… And that is just the stuff I know about. There was a lot of things done that I am sure I do not know about
We love reading all of your entries!
We can so picture Xav and Oli and everything that they do.
Glad Mononcle got to see you guys this week but especially glad to see you’re feeling better- Mononcle confirmed it 🙂
