We went to the movies today because Olivier wanted to see Avatar with a friend. The movie is quite long at 3.5 hours so it was a bit of a challenge to make sure that I eat during the movie. This is the first time that Mel and myself actually got through a large popcorn and I consumed my whole drink as well. I managed to pace myself throughout and felt fine afterward. Afterwards I ate half a McDouble on the way home as I had not had any protein yet. I ate the other half a couple of hours later. I am still struggling a bit with digestion and making sure that I leave enough room in my stomach. At the moment I do not feel like I need to vomit but I have a lot of gas and it makes sitting in a chair rather uncomfortable. If I lounge in my bed however I am quite comfortable and the feelings of nausea subside. I am not sure exactly why this is, but it seems that the angle that I sit and rest has quite the impact.
We left to the movies in a bit of a rush this morning and left the kitchen a mess. Mel is with the boys at a birthday party and I stayed home to rest. I am not sure if I want to be out all day and with the flu going around I would like to avoid people prior to our trip to Ottawa. I have been slacking off a bit and have not weighed myself in a couple of days. I would like to try and be close to 140 prior to us leaving for Ottawa. We have booked a meal with my friend who is the oncologist for January 1st after the hockey game. They are normally never late so I think things will go well. Their son is sometimes 2hrs early for their private session that occurs after my son’s session.
This time through treatment I have a lot to be appreciative of. We have gone through this already once so we are familiar with how things are and our kids are also older now. Both kids will wash the dishes, unload the dishwasher as well as shovel the driveway without too much complaint. I think that they know that I can not do it and they need to help out Mel. I actually do not mind shoveling the driveway and it has been somewhat of a relaxing ritual that I use to do. I never let the snow accumulate and would always shovel it by hand if there was a half an inch or it has snowed for 2 hours if it was going to snow all day. The snow would be light and easy to shovel and you could easily clear it in about 15minutes. With all of the snow that has fallen Xavier will be able to go ski tomorrow with friends. If he is not playing hockey he wants to spend all of his time skiing or working out. It is basically the only time that he makes arrangements with his friends to do things. It involves coordination to get a ride to the ski hill. I need to take Olivier to get his own skiis this week.
The kids saw some photos of when I was younger pre-cancer and they commented on how much bigger I was. Even the photos of Disney from 2023 I was considerably bigger at 180lbs. I did not look anywhere as scrawny as I do now. I am still not sure exactly how my eating has regressed so much in the last year that I now eat basically the same portion size as what I did when I first started treatment. There I never any real point for me to order any food and I just buy a bit from the appetizer menu and share it. When we go to Ottawa something that I am looking forward to eating though is the bone marrow appetizer.
