October 22nd: Season 2 Episode 42 – Here I am

Yesterday when I was driving home from Xavier’s private session we were talking about high school hockey and he said that if it was the same coach next year he would not play. But then he realized that the coach was the father of a grade 12 kid. The kid is also friends with the 2 goalies so it is difficult to cut them in their final year. He also explained why he did not want to play this year as 3rd string. The coach skates them hard at practice if they do not perform up to his expectations and he does not want to get called up to a practice and be forced to skate hard when the team is being punished. He is not one to slack and during tryouts he was faster than the other goalies and will skate hard. The other goalies may slack off because they know and as the goalies are always slower no one really notices especially if both goalies are slow. I need to make sure that I schedule in the calendar when Xavier needs his skates sharpened otherwise we may miss. When the kids were young I should have bought a Sparx machine as it would have saved a lot of time and money. Though we buy the unlimited package during the year. By the end of October it normally has paid for itself as Xavier likes his skates super sharp. I know a lot of people there and will normally wander around and chat with them, but I was so exhausted last time I just sat down in the chair and waited for it to be done.

Mel dropped me off this morning for my appointment and I went to drop off my bag in palliative care. It was quiet there today with just 2 people in there and they told me that they did not expect anyone else until the afternoon. When I went to the imaging department it was very quiet there and they were waiting for me and I went straight in. I mentioned that I had sensitive skin and they asked if I wanted it entered into the system to use the tegaderm tape and I said yes please. Now if I forget it is in the system. Leaving I was in the elevator with someone going to the cancer center and they asked me if I was going to that floor and I said no palliative care and they replied oh I am sorry. Now when you think of palliative it is associated with managing care and trying to improve quality of life for serious illness. I was nice as I was getting off the elevator but I wanted to respond thanks I only have a couple more hours. Most people perceive palliative care as someone is going to die imminently. I guess it could happen but I have a new goal that I want to see achieved, and it is something that has to happen organically. I would like to attend one of the kids marriages, especially if they can find a girl named Mackenzie. Then Mel’s dream of having a kid can be fulfilled and we will have Mack Mach in the family. It is ridiculous to name your kid that but you have passed the bullying mean teasing phase when you get married hopefully. So then the name is acceptable. We have two shots at this, so hopefully one of them comes through for me. If not then they have brought disgrace to the family name and will be banished.

I lost 7 lbs from the drainage so my new true weight is approximately 137. I blame Mel for this as she wants to eat healthy with the rest of the family while I am trying to become obese again like when Mel and I got married. The difference is that at the time it was due mostly to muscle mass and this time it will be due to me sitting motionless and gaining fat. For dinner tonight we did not know what to eat, so we asked the kids and the typical answers came. One meal is cheap and the other is expensive. Olivier wanted Deluxe and Xavier wanted sushi, but Mel overestimates how much we should get. We ended up having a lot of leftovers. On the bright side I ate more than I thought and used up all of the soy sauce I had. I will most likely have more tonight when we get home from shopping. We have beef tallow so I am going to look for pork lard so we can deep fry that in beef tallow and have it with a butter sauce. We can drink a milkshake as our side, but instead of using milk and ice cream we can use 35% cream and ice cream. This will be an epic meal. While we were deciding on what to eat, Olivier saw some of Xavier’s stomach and mentioned that he might have eczema. He is an expert on it as he suffers from it and tries to help his brother out when he sees it. Xavier use to have a really defined 6 pack and his muscles were bigger but he has not been able to workout for a couple of months at home and you can notice. As an Asian dad I had to point out how he was so scrawny and had chicken legs and how his cousin Timmy in China was so much bigger and stronger. Olivier than compared himself to Xavier, and Xavier flexed to show he still has muscles. After dropping off Xavier Mel and I shopped at Food Basics and Walmart for over an hour and now I am physically exhausted and my legs feel like jello.
