We won our game this morning 4 to 3. They managed to score with 0.1 seconds left with a 6-3 PP. I think at that point Xavier was not too concerned with the final shot as we were going to win. He made a lot of clutch saves during the game and surprisingly he let in a goal on a penalty shot. The ref told him he had to stand at a certain spot and he was not allowed to go back to his goal line to reset his position so he was slightly out of position. In a surprising twist, he told the ref that he was wrong about the rules which surprises me a bit as he is normally quiet and does not talk much. This team was quite upset that we beat them, as on paper they are the better team. They have a full bench with 3 kids playing AAA this year while we had 10 players thrown together. Parents congratulated me after the game which always amuses me because it was not me that was playing. The parents who have never seen him play think that he is amazing. Parents on the other team were impressed and during the game there were several instances where they cheered when they thought that they had scored but Xavier robbed them with a dramatic save. Mel was making comments that he would make some other saves that as a goalie parent was much more impressive and they did not appreciate it. Goalie parents see the work when he makes a save look easy, while other parents appreciate the dramatic save. The thing is that dramatic saves indicate that he was out of position.
We are packing up now and leaving the hotel. I am not sure if I will get an opportunity to write more or not later, so I will just post a short update for today. My neuropathy is doing awesome today and considering that I have been up since 5am I am not too tired and I am doing fairly well. Eating has been great and so far this trip has been a success. I drove most of the way home from Ottawa and we switched when Olivier said he had to pee with no notice. Everything is closed on the highway between North Bay and Sturgeon Falls. I wanted to switch with Mel at lights so it would be a quick turnover. Get our of the car at a red light and switch drivers. Mel said she has never seen anyone do that before. Me and my friends use to because we are awesome. On the drive home on the mix the song Apologize by Timbaland was on. I told Mel the song was about his friend eating his chocolate cake and then by that point it was too late to apologize. She did not believe me so please corroborate if she asks. I said I was going to make a Wikipedia page about it and news articles backing it up. She thinks that there is too much fake news and got mad at me. If enough people believe in it then it is true. Mel does not think that kids these days would do what we did as kids or teenagers. There is less drinking and overall they are more conscious of their health and wellness.
We ended up losing in the finals. Xavier was not too happy as he let in 3 goals where he did not see the puck when it was shot. He was not impressed. There were some other things that happened but the game is done and we get to arrive home at midnight. Some other teams asked him to play for them next year, but he said he would stick with this team since they asked him first and he is pretty loyal. They scored with 27 seconds left.
I’m grade 3, there was a day where we were making grilled cheese sandwiches at school and we were asked to bring in some slices of bread. As an Asian household we did. It eat sandwiches often and I obviously did not bring any. The teacher probably expexting that some kids would forget or not have it provided me it. I remember that the sandwich was not that great. Growing up I realized that they just did not know how to make a proper grilled cheese. My grilled cheese sandwiches now are far better. We were gone to a cottage one year with our friends at a B&B and we were making grilled cheese sandwiches. The girls made theirs while I was preparing mine. My friend saw and I asked him if wanted one of mine, he said sure and I proceeded to make my version. The girls agreed that mine was Superior but more effort. Mel generally will get me to make her sandwiches as I will make sure I get the proper ratio of everything. She slaps things on.
As a child I had a ridiculous amount of freedom. My father was part owner of a Chinese restaurant downtown when I was on grade 5. I thought that all buses eventually went downtown so I hopped on a random. Is and rode it. When it made it to the end of the line the bus driver asked me where I wanted to go and I explained it to him. He told me that his route did not go back and told me which bus to take. The route went back to the New Sudbury mall and I eventually hopped onto the bus. I made it downtown and went to a sketchy arcade called Top Hat for while before going to my father’s restaurant. The restaurant was by the courthouse and the arcade was on the way. When you think of that distance it is about a kilometer. I arrived at the restaurant and went in the front door and the hostess and servers did not know who I was. I explained to them while I walked to the back to surprise my father. I told him that I came to surprise him and say hi. He gave me a smirk and told me that if I wanted to eat then I could eat in the back. I can not imagine Olivier doing that now and he is older than I was. I do not know what I was thinking but it was a bit nuts. I think that kids these days are growing up in such a different environment than what we did and I think it is important that we teach them some of the independence that we had.
