I would have most likely slept through the night yesterday, but Mel received a phone call at 1:30am for work. She had to go into the office for something and got up to go. As she was goind downtown and it may be sketchy I stayed on the phone with her while she went there. It reminded me of what I use to do with my sister when she use to walk home from school in a different city. I decided to eat at that time while Mel was out and after I eat it takes me a bit of time before I can go back to sleep. I am use to this though so it is not that big of a deal for me. When Mel got home it took her a bit of time before she was able to fall asleep again, but she managed to be able to do it. Falling asleep was not too difficult and then I slept till 6am when I was up for the day then. My taste buds are starting to come back as the tingling in my tongue has decreased significantly. Fatigue is managable as is the neuropathy in my hands. Food intake has decreased a bit lately, but that is due mainly to the timing of me being out and about doing things. I do not make up missed meals very well when I am not at home.
I find it interesting how oblivious some people are to things. When we were at Costco, there were numerous occasions when people were walking 3 or 4 abreast within the aisles with their carts, making it difficult to pass. When they turned around and saw me they would apologize and move out of the way. On occasion they would almost hit me inadvertantly when walking around because they could not see me. Driving around town it is a bit similar where I do not understand why there are occasions where people will drive so much below the speed limit. I was behind vehicles on occasion where they are driving 30km/h. Mel had wanted to go to the dump yesterday and we were on our way there, and then she suddenly remembered that she and the boys had a chiropractor appointment in 20 minutes. We had to turn the van around and go back home on the bypass. While we were driving and we were by Countryside arena a couple of cars got onto the bypass, and the lead vehicle was driving 50km/h. Far below the posted speed limit, which was amusing since we were a bit behind and were rushing to get home in time to get the boys. I do not understand why people drive so slow and if they tend to be that cautious is it actually safe for them to be on the road. I know that there are times when I should not be driving and I make sure that I do not in those instances. I can normally find someone to drive me so I am not not putting others at risk.
I received the results from my PET scan and the lungs are clear, and besides the ascites, everything else seems to be clear as well. I am not sure what that means going into the future as from what I can tell it was not evident that it was in the peritoneal wall as well. I will talk to the doctor I know that reads the scans and see what his opinion is, but it will be a long chat so I will make sure that I have time for it. RIght now treatment lasts for 3 days, I have 2 days recovery that is not bad, followed by 2 exhausting days and then back to normal. This is followed by 7 days that are relatively fine. In my head this seems easy and I can deal with this, except for when there are some days that are exceptionally hard. I am hoping that this trend continues but since the effects of chemotherapy are cumulative, I am not sure at what point do we take a break and allow my body to recover. I should be having a CT scan scheduled in the next couple of weeks and we will see what that shows.
Xavier’s regular shooters were not available today, so I got a substitute with someone that played semi-pro in Europe. He works for me and I figured he would give Xavier a challenge. I have not seen Xavier practice in close to 6 months now and I enjoy watching him run through the drills. There are some fundamental drills that he has done since he was a little kid and watching him go through the motion for those always amuses me because you can see subtle adjustments that he does now compared to before. His skating and movement is so smooth and he makes the motions look so easy. There is one drill that he does where he hinges off the post and with a smooth movement pivots his body into place. A lot of goalies do not do this motion well, especially in his age bracket and he does it so effortlessly. At the end of every practice they do a small competition and Xavier wins this 95% of the time. It was no different today as it is a first to 10, he was up 9 to 2 and then a comeback was mounted and then shot down. When things are on the line he tends to elevate his game.
