This morning I went in and had my port inserted. They asked me if I wanted sedation or not. I was told 50% of the patients do and the only reason they do is to calm their nerves. I was informed that it is painless and an easy procedure. What I told the nurses and doctors is that I do not freeze well. I was assured that the doctor was careful and used a lot of drugs to ensure that you are frozen and will not feel a thing. Spoiler alert. They used the maximum drugs and 7nfelr everything. The doctor acknowledged that I could feel the pain and not just pressure. It was amusing because prior when we were talking and I said I just deal with it because I am Asian he laughed and said it was true. Asians are stoic and just suck it up without complaint. Well, I felt every cut and the tube being pushed into me. It was not pleasant and I told him to just get it over with as opposed to trying something. He said if you are under sedation you are not completely under but you do not remember anything. I opted against it so I could leave earlier as I wanted to make sure I was not groggy to count stats. Interestingly I would not have had to fast since I was not sedated. They wanted me to remain for an hour to monitor but I did not want to and asked to be discharged and they agreed after consulting the doctor. Like usual I made enough of an Impact that the nurses told me that I made their day as I was light hearted and joked around with them the whole time. Besides the pain and feeling yourself getting sliced open it was great. If possible I would highly recommend not feeling the scalpel cutting you. It is an odd sensation.
Our new family rule is do not accept fasting without understanding why. I ended up not eating a lot today and when we had dinner later I ended up throwing up mucous. We went to a Nepalese restaurant in North Bay and normally when I eat rice it is not an issue, but it was tonight. I am still a bit sore from the surgery and my movements are very rigid and stiff but I am feeling better now.
We have a long weekend of hockey now and we won the game tonight 7 to 1. Xavier played well but let in a goal after a 3rd rebound on a penalty kill. He almost had it but it snuck in. In the first period we were severely outshot 16 to 4 and he kept the team in the game until they got into it. Our team missed the net alot but managed to capitalize on our chances at the start. He will need to do that this weekend if we are to have a shot at winning it all. I will update more tomorrow.
