Yesterday morning I had gone in for bloodwork and preassessment. I had the ticket number 3, and had to wait 10 minutes before I was seen. There was one exprerienced woman and she was in the process of training a couple of workers. Normally it takes probably 6o seconds for me to get registered for bloodwork, preassessment and for me to be on my way. Normally I have the utmost patience for people who are undergoing training, but I was so annoyed that it took them 5-10 minutes to go through everything as she was being taught. I was plenty early and was not at risk of being late even if I went for bloodwork prior to my pre-assessment. I was then asked to fill out the Your Symptoms matters, which is very similar to the pre-assessment. In this instance I think it is misdirected annoyance as I had already been at the hospital several times and I think that coming to the cancer center for pre-assessment is a waste of time along with the your symptoms matter. The tablet that they give you sucks, so I opted to do it on my phone. I have also never had anyone from my clinical team reference the survey. They go through their own battery of questions and follow up, so I do not see very much purpose for that document. When I went to the lab they required a urine sample, and she gave me a bottle to tke home, so next week I can take it prior to me going into the lab. I will go to the washroom there and pee right before I go to the lab. Later that afternoon I had driven Xavier to hockey and on the drive home on Copper street there was a car that was ridiculously slow and when they got to the 3 way stop at Copper and Zinc there were only 3 cars traveling in the same direction. The car came to a complete stop and must have been there for 30 seconds to the point that Xavier asked what the car was waiting for. They slowly went forward and the car behind them decided to pass them illegally. I do not blame them really, as I do not see any reason to be driving 10 below the speed limit when it is 40 and waiting so long at a stop sign that is completely vacant. Come to a complete stop and move on, but why are you sitting there. Zinc has no houses on it and nothing of interest. I have no clue what they were doing. I have seen so many cars blow through that stop sign and cops will sit on Zinc and catch a lot of vehicles blowing the stop sign.

For my treatment today I got 2 drugs instead of 1 and spend all morning and part of the afternoon there. I also received the regular dose of Benadryl, but I was not supper groggy at first and it took much longer to kick in. My dietician came to see me, she was originally beside me and said she would come back once I had settled in for a bit. We chatted about some of the difficulties that I was having and some of the coping mechanisms I had. My weight gain and fluctuations were brought up and we were trying to figure out what is the ideal time for me to inform the supportive care team that I needed to be drained. She appreciated the fact that when food textures gave me a problem we would experiment with different things and not allow that to be a barrir for us. Sometimes you just suck it up and you eat it as best as you can becaus you know that you need to. I keep on teling my mother what I need for food. She brought congee like I asked and she completely ignored my request not to put too much fish, shrimp or seafood into it. It was impossible for me to take a bite without having several piecs of seafood in it, which would be fine for most people. but the texture is something that I have difficulty with. I said give maybe 3 or 4 pieces of shrimp for the whole container. I told her repeatedly that I have a hard time with the meat and i will need to throw it out. There is so much it is difficult to take out. I said that there must be like 20 pieces of shrimp and she said she only put in like 15. I know that she is trying to do the right thing and help me, but when she does not do as I ask it is actually worse as I can not really eat it and then i must make something else for me to eat which takes energy when I do not necessarily have it. That is the whole reason why we ask her to make things on my treatment day. I would be better off just ordering myself food rather than be disappointed and then needing to adjust. The good thing is that once I do wake up from my drug-induce grogginess I am ok. While I was out cold at the cancer center Mel contacted our nurse friend in palliative care and mentioned the lack of sleep so I had some sleeping pills faxed to my pharmacy and Mel went to pick them up. They mentioned something to her and she told but I do not remember what she said and I will ask her later on. I am always cold, but if I turn on the settings of the heated mattress too much I get hot and can not sleep. This afternoon I had it dialed in quite well but when I woke up i felt a bit of dampness on my boxers. I was concerned that I did not have control and was quite worried, but noticed that it was only sweat. Mel asked how I coud tell the difference and I have had this happen enough unfortunately that I can tell. If it is urine the sheets are always wet and Depeends shows signs of wetness inside where the material clumps up and the edges there is always residual wetness from where it seeps out. It is bad that I know so much about this, but now you know. I am quite glad that I use them because you do not think you need them until it happens. Most of the time I have the perception that I do not need them, but it is a lie because there are times where the inside is a bit disintegrated from absorption. This would indicate that they are doing their job. Right now we only have 1 washroom and I can not always control my bladder as well as I think I coud, so I know that at times I have dribbled a bit getting out of bed, but it gets caught and I will clean myself up in the washroom. Today the steroids help stimulate appetite and it seems that my internal organs have settled down and are behaving well as I have eaten fairly well today now. There are some things that I am interested in making and after I am done writing I am going to go see what I can make. I had dinner earlier and just recently had some beans and pork skewer from the Ukranian church. I loved it as it was the perfect texture between soft and crispiness. I enjoy the food that we get there and the perogies and cabbage rolls are a bit different from what you get from other cabbage rolls. The cabbage rolls are primarily rice with less meat, but that is what I grew up eating and much prefer this then the other styles that are more meat forwawrd. Mel and the boys prefer these, while my mother in law does not like them. My father in law does not like cabbage rolls but tries to eat them for some reason still. The perogies also have a thicker wrapping compared to other ones but we will buy from there to help support a local church.

Tonight we will see if the drugs work. I had a friend visit today and it was nice to see her again, I had met her a couple of years ago and have spent time mentoring her youngest daughter who had an interest in research. She lives out in BC, but her daughter is attending UoT so we will take her out for meals when we are in Toronto. She had a partner who had died after a prolonged fight with a terminal illness so she understands what it is like to go through that. I had asked her if it was ok if Mel reached out to her if she had questions or wanted to chat. I think that the two of them will get along well. I appreciate that I have a partner that is always looking out for me. Mel is proactive and she knows how stubborn I can be so instead of relying on me to tell our nurse friend about the sleeping she told her instead. I use to have some pills downstairs but Mel thinks that I got rid of them. We will see how effetive this new pill is.

Q

Over the last couple of days I have had very little patience for things.
