I am a hypocrite and tell people to have a work life balance. Do as I say and not as I do. When Mel and I are alone without the kids we revert to our old patterns and we both tend to do work. This is why I planned to just work forever until I died. I enjoy work and it gives me something to look forward to. Over the course of the last couple of years I have met people that I have built connections with and we chat pretty frequently. This afternoon while I was in a call with one of my mentees from out west i saw a phone call from the wife of these friends. As she is not one to ever call I was concerned and took the call. My friend died last night of a heart attack about an hour after he had texted me. He was struggling with some health issues the last couple of weeks and was in and out of the hospital and things took a turn. We texted every week and I appreciated the call, offered my condolences and if there was anything that i could do I would try and help out. He was older than I was and he had wanted to collaborate on consulting coaching for companies and individuals, but I was always too busy to do a lot of the legwork. The plan was he was going to focus on sales and then I would focus on the coaching. It is hard to sell a package for a coach if they are not available to coach. You never know what life will bring you and it is important to prioritize what matters and focus your energy towards positive endeavors. I spent the day writing legacy documents for mentees or my team on how to execute some highly technical strategies and laid out longer term development things for some of them. I have 4 mentees that I mentor where I offered to help them out after I met them at conferences. They liked my talk and we got talking and I saw a lot of potential with them and offered them my contact information for whenever they needed to chat or require assistance. I help them out every quarter and they love it and tell me that my team is lucky to have me, so I think it is worth it because they appreciate it and hopefully I am having an impact on the younger generation. What I learned from academia is that knowledge should not be hoarded but openly shared. It is not something that everyone believes in and people hold information tight to themselves as information is powerful. Shared knowledge and understanding amongst everyone is stronger.

This morning I got up fairly early, had a couple of meals and then went back to bed around 8am. The nurse was going to come at 10:30 for my injection and I fell back asleep and at 9:50 Mel woke me up as she was sleeping in as well. She likes to do that when the kids are not around. I got up and noticed that I had some missed texts. I had one from my best man where he pasted his speech that he gave at the wedding. It was an awesome speech and I will relay some of the content that he spoke about. I have shared some of the stories in the past but I will share them from his perspective as well. Today Mel gave me the injection under supervision of the nurse and it was probably the best injection that I have had so far, and the nurse said that it was super smooth. I have a bit more far now it seems and Mel did it all no her own. It still sucks to get as I can feel it all, but at least Mel can do it for me now. The neuropathy sadly is getting worse right now, but I have pills that I will take to help combat it. The issue is that the pills may take weeks till a month for me to see the impact. That is all right because I am patient. I have been able to eat quite a bit still and my taste buds are still intact. Fatigue is managable as long as I do not believe it exists and do active things. On Sunday I try and relax and then that is when it hits me a bit more it seems. We do not have any concrete dinner ideas for tomorrow, and Mel said she will find something in the freezer and then I will cook it. It will be fun to do.

We have been getting updates from Xavier and he is having a ball. He has been doing pushups with his cousins on his back and he does it so effortlessly. He called me to tell me something and his first thing that he said was everything is ok and then told me about the pig roast that they are doing. I had known about it because my FIL had sent photos. I have wanted to do a full suckling pig roast for a while and I think that this summer is the time to do it for my 50th and I will invite friends, family and workers over. Mel is a bit concerned that if the weather is bad we can not have a ridiculous amount of people in our house. She is right about that and I am not sure how many tents we could accommodate in our yard. I am going to think about what to do about this and then come up with some ridiculous plan to make it work. There is also the issue of timing on when we would do this which complicates things a bit more. We have a hockey tournament and a trip planned for the weekend prior to my birthday. We took Olivier out for dinner today and the two of them are so different with their approach to everything. Olivier is far more picky about his food, but he orders things and does not like components on it for various reasons. For example he ordered tonight a mac and cheese with fried chicken tenders and said that the tenders were too crispy and not right. He does not like when restaurants fry in older oil and it bothers him quite a bit, but he does not necessearily recognize that as of yet. I did not want to point it out at the table because he would then point that out whenever he did not like something. The cost of our dinner tonight was not far off what we had for dinner last night for 2 at a higher end restaurant. The quality of food was significantly different though, and I am not sure why people go out and eat so much or can afford it. Things are ridiculously priced these days, but luckily my kids prefer home made food to eating out.

My thicker nitrile gloves came in today and I think that they will help me out with my neuropathy. I had looked up insulated gloves for cooking and these are made for BBQ so they are thicker and can handle heat. they might be ok and be better for cold. I will still wear my cotton gloves underneath. There were a lot of dishes when we came home and I decided to help Mel out and do them. She is still dealing with the mess downstairs and with the rain we got today it is a bit concerning. We have had a lot of industrial equipment downstairs to try and dry it, but today it smells lile mildew or mold. Mel started a claim for insurance and she had difficulty getting through and I got through today because the procedure is ridiculous. You need to start on the app. Not the web, the app and then you can get transferred to an actual person. They have an AI, but it is so bad. I can not stand talking to AI agents or chat bots as they are so bad. The only one that I like is the one that I am developoing for one of the projects I am involved in and it is stellar. I have introduced a lot of new concepts on how an AI should act and it is working out wonderfully. Keeping my mind on things helps me think of how my body might be fatigued. When I slow down then I can feel some of it in my bones. The next two days are the bad days and I have some things in place this time to combat them. We will see if they are effective on Tuesday and the results of this experiment. I will take what works and what does not and adjust as required. After all it is just a minor case of cancer. Not a big deal at all.

Q

I ended up going to bed last night at 1:30am because I decided to do some work that did not have to be done but I had a lot of ideas in my head.
