I had some difficulty sleeping and was up repeatedly through the night. The difficulty was self inflicted as i had a lot of ideas running through my head and would occasionally document things and run through scenarios. I also wanted to make sure that Mel’s snores were real and not an audio playing on her phone. She likes to play sounds to help her fall asleep and though some of them I find annoying she may have resorted to sounds of people snoring to help her out. With the heavy rainfall we need to make sure we monitor our back yard for flooding. It has not happened for a while so I was not too worried. I should have been as the downpour resulted in a river in between the houses and crazy flooding. What this resulted in is flooding in our basement as the sump pump broke as it was at least 15 years old. The water levels rose and water seeped in through the floor at various places. Mel was ecstatic at this outcome as she got to spend all day cleaning up the water. We have a massive Shop-Vac and she managed to fill it up with water several times. Our neighbor across the street came and helped us out for a couple of hours vacuuming up all of the water. Mel informed her father this morning and asked him for some guidance. Being the awesome person he is, he called into work and told them that he had to help us out. Everyone at his work knows of my current condition and know that I am a great supervisor and can boss people around but can not do the work. They are quite understanding and he was late into work. Our ancient sump pump was working but died at some point and could not keep up with the river running along the house. We went out and bought a new one, not the one that I wanted as it is not available to purchase at stores. It is a professional commercial grade one, but I got one that is highly rated and good. It comes with a backup system with battery and has wifi connection to keep you updated. I will also install the water sensors throughout the house to make sure that we do not have leaks anywhere. The amount of people that are willing to always help us out has been quite helpful. When I told some people at work, someone offered to send a meal to my house as I was in Chemo and Mel was stressed. We are lucky to have so many people rally to help us out. We knew that today would be difficult for meals, so we prepared by asking my parents to make dinner. We had two types of congee to feed 12 people and homemade wontons. Luckily I eat 1/4th portions of people so the congee will last us two weeks. If someone wants to try some seafood congee they are more than welcome as only Xavier and I like congee and he is leaving Friday morning. The likelihood of me eating it all is close to nil.

I called a friend of mine to come drive me to Chemo and I had one of my friends from the hospital come visit me in the morning. Registration was not too busy and we managed to get through it all fairly quickly and then onto chemo. The drugs from pharmacy arrived quickly and they changed some of the procedure a bit so I was out in 3 hours. I worked through the whole thing and had some meetings. My neuropathy is awesomely bad today but if i heat up my hands it is much better. The lock jaw is back and I have a touch of nausea. I took the ondanestron and it helps, so clearly I should take it prior to me eating. It is not that I have real nausea, but my stomach just feels off, and when I take the pills it goes away. Those are the only symptoms right now so they are all manageable and not too big of a deal. The nurse taped down the port tubing a bit close to my armpit and she said next time she is going to get me to raise my arm. If I raise my arm around my shoulder it pulls on the skin. It is all right though as I try not to lift that arm much and use my left arm as much as I can during this time. I am quite hungry today and just remembered that the steroids have that impact on me. I have eaten several times and remember to take an energy gel while we were out to replenish my waning energy. It perked me up pretty quickly and helped me out.

Mel is a champion. Our basement is a complete mess right now with flooding in 4 of of the rooms. Surprisingly my office which is in the corner where the water rushes by did not seem to get much moisture, but it could be hidden. She managed to clean up most of the mess while working and taking meetings. She has been going non-stop since this morning and is still going. The kitchen is a complete mess and I would try and help out a bit but my hands are super cold. I think I am going to see what I can do and then get the kids to help out with some dishes. Xavier went with me this evening to go get a battery for the sump and I ended up getting a couple of extra things. The boys do a good job of stepping up when we need them to help out. I need to weear gloves all of the time right now and even wear gloves with the nitrile gloves over top when I cook and we do have dish washing gloves that I will wear now. I am tired but Mel needs help so I am going to do what I can. If I die tonight know that I died out of exhaustion doing dishes. On my tombstone I want it known that I died doing housechores…specifically doing dishes. So if someone says would it kill you to clean up after yourself, the answer is yes. Did you not hear about the husband in Sudbury that died doing dishes?

Q

Last night it poured.
